IHEU and FSI Conference

You are invited to attend a workshop/conference on Secularism in South Africa, co-hosted by the International Humanist and Ethical Union and the Free Society Institute.

This message serves as an announcement and call for papers for the workshop, to be held on August 29 in Cape Town, from 10am to 4pm. The venue will be confirmed by August 10, as the number of attendees will determine the venue size required. There is no cost to participants, and lunch and refreshments will be served.

Talks on any theme related to secularism, humanism and atheism are welcomed, but the overall theme of the workshop is intended to be an exploration of future directions and strategies for free thought in South Africa and Africa more generally. Various groupings with these sorts of interest have sprung up over the last few years, and this should be considered an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, to align forces, and to share strategies and ideas. Theists are equally welcome to both attend and speak at the event.

If you are interested in presenting a talk at the event, please send an abstract of your paper to jacques(at)fsi(dot)org(dot)za by July 30th. Submissions will be considered by the organisers, and a preliminary programme will be available here by 10 August 2009.
